Kalka vs Figma
Kalka borrows Figma's interface on purpose. What changes is underneath: in Figma you draw a picture of a web page, in Kalka you draw the web page.
| Feature | Figma | Kalka |
|---|---|---|
| Canvas | Vector drawing | HTML and CSS, laid out by the browser |
| Getting code | Dev Mode, plugins, MCP server | Nothing to export, the design is the code |
| AI agents | MCP server, canvas writing in beta, planned to become usage-based | Built-in local MCP, no usage cap |
| Open source | No | Yes, MIT |
| Switching | Imports your .fig files | |
| Your files | Figma's cloud | A folder on your machine, Git ready |
| Collaboration | Real time, mature | Planned |

Stay on Figma if
- You design apps more than websites.
- Your clients and team live in Figma files.
- You rely on its plugins and community.
Try Kalka if
- Your designs end up as websites.
- You are tired of rebuilding every frame in CSS.
- You want files you own and an open source tool.
Why we kept Figma's interface
Millions of people already know where the layers panel is, how auto layout behaves and which shortcut draws a frame. Asking them to relearn all of that to get real HTML would be the wrong trade. So Kalka keeps the habits and changes the material.
Facts about Figma come from Figma's help center, checked October 9, 2026. We build Kalka.
